Jessica is a noted gourmand/foodie who in this volume takes a culinary route from Africa through the Middle Passage, to the Caribbean and the U.S., from slavery to the present. This book does an extraordinary job of engaging food – from the roots to the fruits/from field & garden to the kitchen to the diner – as a metaphor for societal changes through the prism of African America. Highly recommended!
