Before he was 18, Oakland native Ambrose Akinmusire won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2007; his Blue Note debut recording will be released this spring and is eagerly anticipated.

In her relatively short career, multi-talented jazz violinist, and MacArthur Foundation “genius” award recipient Regina Carter has spanned fusion, avant-garde and mainstream jazz, and returned to her classical upbringing. For her latest project, “Reverse Thread”, she goes deep into the African stringed instrument tradition.

Tri-C JazzFest is produced by Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) and plays venues across the Greater Cleveland community; including Metro Campus Auditorium and Theatre, the State Theater, Severance Hall (home of the Cleveland Orchestra), Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), East Cleveland Public Library (Gregory L. Reese Performing Arts Center), Cleveland Museum of Art/Gartner Auditorium, Nighttown, etc.

Tri-C JazzFest is education-based and has long been known as America’s Premiere Educational Jazz Festival with its unique blend of artists-in-residence, clinics & workshops, and plethora of high school jazz ensembles from across the region, coupled with free & ticketed evening concerts at venues around the community.
