@ Adam- Why should the two be in contradiction? have great artwork in a really fancy and lovely case- just make sure everything that needs to be known IN ADDITION to how great is your artwork and music, is visible and easy to get to. This helps not just to radio guys, but also to people who actually buy your CD (instead of just downloading it). One of the reasons i still buy cd's is for the artwork and additional texts and photos. But that doesn't mean that the personnel/track listing/label/etc... should be made clear to me.

OK guys. Here we go. If you can't read something that is printed, get some glasses. As artists and musicians who have been forced to live in a world where we have to release our own material I think it amazing to see someone's vision on their own packaging. It's 2010 and it seems to me that people are trying to not only put out new music but also give us something to look at. I blind buy things that look amazing before even hearing them. My advice is to get over it. Art packages are here and here in a big way. Sorry they don't fit on your shelf at the radio station! Maybe they shouldn't. We realize that you are trying to give us some air time and we appreciate it. But give us a break. The days of seeing the same CD package are dead and over. DIY is here to stay, so get some bigger shelves and some reading glasses. Or here's a better idea. Know what you're playing on the air before you go on. It's not that difficult !

Some good points here! Also, thinking about the .mp3 trend, musicians should be sure they got all the details tagged and encoded in the .mp3 file... especially indie/DIY atrists.. it really makes a big difference

I completely agree with you, Willard -- silly CD packaging is a real drag. I started noticing the .mp3 trend coming on strong when I was working at my college radio station in 2006, and it's increased remarkably since then. It really changes the vibe of the station and especially its programming.
