Jazz Eats (John Clayton)

Master bassist John Clayton is a veteran road warrior and quite the gourmand, and a devotee of fine wines as well. Here the erudite bandleader shares his take on some of the cuisine highlights among the many venues he’s played.

This is a tough question. I believe food is improving throughout the nation’s jazz clubs that have full restaurants.

I actually enjoy the food at DIZZY’S. YOSHI’S is wonderful. And there are plenty of only “good” restaurants–not bad, nothing to write home about.

One sleeper that is at the top of the list is the Dakota Jazz Club. Here’s a link to their menu (below). I’m sure I’ll be kicking myself for not remembering wonderful meals at other clubs, but right now, it’s this one.
